John 14:25-27

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

If there was a time in our Christian life that we needed peace it is now. There is too much turmoil in the world. There is too much happening that will take the steam out of our lives; from news of wars, of genocides, or hunger of sin and corruption and of a constant threat that something evil is about to happen.

Apart from that, the believer is faced with the challenge of waiting for the fullness of God’s promises. The pace of this world puts a great deal of pressure on the Christian who is waiting on God. The word “delay” comes handy and it is not uncommon to hear believers say they pray and the answer delays. If something delays, it means it did not come at its appointed time. That is the mentality the believer has to battle against today.

In all these situations, we can safely go back to Jesus’ statement to us to be at peace. He can only tell us that because He has given us His peace. He said His peace is not comparable to what we think we get from anywhere. Elsewhere, Jesus said to “be of good cheer” because He has overcome the world which works against us.

It is clear, that the peace of God that passes all human understanding is our portion forever. Learn to depend on that.

We have to take note of the presence of the Holy Spirit with us. He breathes the peace of God into our hearts. If we are sensitive to Him, we can feel Him not just whispering peace to us but bringing all the agitation in our hearts under control.

1. Thank God for assuring us of peace that passes all human understanding against all the issues that fill our thoughts all day long.

2. Ask for the ability to remain at peace in the midst of the greatest provocation.

3. Father, I take that which is my portion in You – peace that the world cannot give.

I declare today that my God is the Source of peace. I receive His peace and I walk in it, and no human situation will knock me off. I declare by divine authority, let the peace of God prevail over all my situations and circumstances. I shall not be perturbed, I rest in God until my change comes.
