Psalm 62:10-12

Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. 11 One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard: “Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”

As we possess our possessions, we must be careful to keep everything in its proper context. Riches do not come to us for no reason. The Provider of riches has a purpose for everything extra He brings your way. If God gives you more than you need, it is clear that He wants you to share with those in need.

One truth that God never would have us forget is that He, the Giver of good gifts is far above the gifts. God would have us focus on Him more than the things He gives to us. That is what the Psalmist meant when he wrote that when your riches abound, you should not set your heart on them. Many have done this to their disadvantage and have brought untold shame and hardship upon themselves.

Riches are a two-edged sword; if you handle them well, you get blessed more by the Lord. If you let them get into your head, they drive you crazy and you even forget the God who gave you the riches. The wise man is the one who places God above all that he possesses, knowing also that riches are like vapor. Today they are, and tomorrow they may be gone, but the Lord who gives them abides forever. Amen!

1.      Continue to thank the Lord for making you rich. It is His will for you to be prosperous and He will continue to bless you.

2.     Ask for understanding and wisdom to handle the riches God brings your way so they do not get into your head.

3.     Father, help me to love and honor You far above every gift that You place in my hand.

I declare that Abraham’s blessings are mine. I have all that I need to fulfill my divine destiny. I will not let God down; I will walk in wisdom in the midst of abundance. I refuse to walk in deception. I will not put my trust in uncertain riches. Let the wisdom of God be my portion in the name of Jesus. I honor with my life my God the source of all blessings; I refuse to allow His blessings to possess my heart. My heart belongs to God therefore I choose to use His blessings to build His Kingdom in the name of Jesus.
